My girlfriend has Bacterial Conjunctivitis and the Dr. has

This answer was rated:

My girlfriend has Bacterial Conjunctivitis and the Dr. has commented it is "extremely contagious." He believes it came from the use of her Contact Lenses.

My question to you is :-
Can we still kiss, have sexual intercourse or even sleep in the same bed? If not, how long do we have to wait?

Thank you

Thank you for your question,

I’m Dr. Saha and I’ll try to help you.

Conjunctivitis is highly contagious.

It can be infectious till there is discharge from eye.

In case of viral one it can remain contagious for 2 weeks.

But in bacterial conjunctivitis, the chance of infection decreases after 24 hours of start of antibiotics.

Antibiotic reduces the chance of transmission by killing the bacteria.

You need to avoid close during this period.

I hope this information helps.

I will be happy to assist, if you need any clarification.

Best wishes.

Thank you for your prompt reply.

So if she starts taking the Antibiotic Course and Eye Drops prescribed as of today(Sunday), we can kiss from Tuesday onwards safely with no fear of contagion?

Also, could you answer yes or no as to whether its possible to pick up anything during the period of antibiotics please :-

1) use the same pillow to sleep on

2) using the same bathroom handtowel to dry my face

3) sharing any garment, e.g. Hoodie Sweatshirt, tea towel in the kitchen, etc

Thank you

If you notice that the discharge is improving, then the antibiotic is working & in that case it is safe.

It is possible to pick up from towel. bed linen as the discharge from eye can come contact with them.
