Why does my four year old only break out in hives at night

This answer was rated:

Why does my four year old only break out in hives at night time. He has been getting ever since the tornado hit our house 3 weeks ago. But it's not every night though. Took him to the doctor but he didn't have it at the time. The spots are red bumps and red welps some are flat with skin and some are raised up. It s always gone by morning. They don't itch him
Hello,

Thank you for your question,

I’m Dr. Saha and I’ll try to help you.

How frequently does he get it?

Does he need any medicine to improve the symptom or does it resolve spontaneously?

Was there any change in environment, food, clothing etc.?

Does he have any other medical issue or take any regular medicine?

He doesn't take any medicines on a regular basis. We live in Moore where all the tornados were but now we r in Chicago and he has gotten them the last three nights. Before that it was mile 3-4 times total in a couple of weeks. It seems to be primarily on his cheeks and torso.i have given him Benadryl every time but last night I didn't give him anything and it went away on its own over night
Thank you for the information,

The causes of having urticaria at night can be due to a few causes.

Allergy to bed linen, bite from bed bug can be the more probable causes.

Sometimes cold environment at night can precipitate hives or allergic reaction.

Food can be a factor.

You can make a food diary to check whether any particular food is causing it.

Change in environment can be a factor too.

Sometimes parasitic infection can cause hives but it may not happen only at night.

As it improves spontaneously, you can wait and watch.

If it continues to happen, you can discuss it with doctor to investigate in details to find out the exact cause.

Zyrtec can be used, if it persists.

I hope this information helps.

I will be happy to assist, if you need any clarification.

Please feel free for any follow up query.

Regards.

He gets it before he lays in bed though. It's usually just in the evening til bed time then while he is sleeping it goes away
In such condition, bed linen, bed bugs are not the factors.

We will search for other causes.

Exposure to pollen, dust, animal dander etc. can be possible if he went outside on those incidence.

Make a food diary too to rule out any food factor.
