My son keeps falling asleep. He stays awake for five to ten minutes at a time. When he's awake he vomits, or dry heaves. He also seems to be disoriented and having trouble standing / walking.

Dr. Nomi :

Hi,

Dr. Nomi :

For how long he is having this condition?

Customer:

the last 4 hours

Dr. Nomi :

If he is doing vomitings for last few hours then he is dehydrated.

Dr. Nomi :

Disorientation and sleepiness is sign of dehydration.

Dr. Nomi :

Vomiting can occur due to any infection like throat or uri.nary tract

Customer:

it all started when he woke up from a nap

Dr. Nomi :

Food poising also lead to this.

Dr. Nomi :

Look like he is having some infection.

Customer:

could he have swallowed something? or from something he ate?

Dr. Nomi :

You need to give him oral rehdrating solution after every vomit.

Dr. Nomi :

Best is taking him to doctor.

he seems to be getting better with the walking and standing as more and more time goes on.

Dr. Nomi :

Good.

Dr. Nomi :

Keep an eye on his temperature.

Customer:

but he still continues to try and sleep for a few minutes intervals

Dr. Nomi :

If he improves and is playful then all is fine.

Dr. Nomi :

Excessive sleepiness when he looks disoriented is not good.

Customer:

what would cause these symptoms

Dr. Nomi :

However,if he is playful and sleepy in intervals then its fine.

Vomiting is causing loss of body salts hence its causing all.
