What do you clean a newborn babies naval with?

Hello,

Is there any discharge?

Any soreness on belly button?

How old is newborn?

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

the baby was born Friday doctor. none of the other. naval has a like band aid on it and only sponge baths.

Hello,
Thanks for providing more information.

Firstly wash your hands before handling your baby's stump and clean the umbilical stump with a warm, moist flannel or sponge after giving a bath.

You can use rubbing alcohol to clean it.
Gentian violet dye 1% in water also can be applied.

I hope I've provided the information you were seeking. If you are happy with my service, please provide a rating. If not, please let me know so l can continue to help you. Thank you.

Doctor how long do they leave the band aid on? When should he have his first bath? They were told to sponge bathe him only but they don't know for how long.

Hello,

Most experts say about one week.

Though some still say wait until the belly button skin has fully fallen off. We started giving a bath to newborn at one week and most pediatricians agree this is a good time.

Here is a link with other great information and how to give your baby the first bath.

how about a epsom salt bath but not on his head?

Hello,

As he is just few days old and his skin is so soft and sensitive.

It's not recommended to try epsom salt bath for your baby as it can sometimes irritates baby's skin.

Good Luck.

Thank you.
