Good Day, I went to pick up some prescriptions yesterday and decided to check my blood pressure. The result was 185/80. I have not been feeling well for about a month. My feet and ankles are swollen, I have blurred vision, an ongoing headache, irritability and exhaustion. Also, I have had a persistent cough, tightness of the chest from the coughing and shortness of breathe. Should I be worried? I am waiting to hear back from a nurse in my PCP office.
Hi
THank you for requesting me :-)
What is your blood pressure usually?
Customer: replied 4 years ago.
Honestly it fluctuates often. I was placed on hydrochlorathizide (I think that's how it is spelled) over a year ago. I ran out of it a week ago and have been too busy to pick up my refill.
Ok
Well, if you are having symptoms and your blood pressure is this high, it needs to be urgently lowered.
This is what we call a hypertensive emergency
Symptoms include:
headache
shortness of breath
blurry vision
chest pain

It looks like you have at least 3 symptoms
I would recommend that you go to the ER for treatment- they need to bring your pressure down asap

Keep me posted Aidni :-)

Good Day, Dr. Cameron.

I went to ER as you suggested and sure enough my BP was 193/122 when I got there. Luckily they were able to bring it down. I have an appointment scheduled with a Cardiologist to conduct a stress test. Thanks so much for your assistance!

Wow thanks for the follow up! I am glad you got the help you needed!
