hello. about a month ago, i noticed that i felt a little rough spot in my mouth where i used to hold smokeless tobacco. it is like a little lacy piece of skin. there is no pain, swelling or thickness. should i be worried about a cancer?

mysticdoc :

Hello,

mysticdoc :

Thanks for requesting me.

mysticdoc :

This does not sound concerning.

mysticdoc :

If this is not like white plaque or thickened area, this is not precancerous.

Customer: what would white plaque look like
mysticdoc :

You should still get this area checked by your doctor for confirmation.

mysticdoc :

like white area which cannot be removed ( like stuck)

Customer: my dentist looked at it and said he wasnt concerned at all, but it is bothering me bacause he didnt really say what it was
mysticdoc :

Ok

mysticdoc :

do not worry.

mysticdoc :

this is just scar tissue formation.

Customer: i am just worried because i have dipped tobacco for 14yrs. and now that ive quit, i am having weird things pop up in my mouth
Customer: i have been quit for 84 days
mysticdoc :

Probably you are more anxious and noticing these things more often.

mysticdoc :

does not mean anything.

mysticdoc :

you are doing good so far by staying off tobacco.

Customer: do you think dentists are qualified to spot cancer or precancer
mysticdoc :

yes they are

Customer: he said that my spot had no depth to it. what does that mean
mysticdoc :

that means it is not an ulcer

mysticdoc :

an ulcer will have depth

Customer: so white plaque are would be like a white patch, not just a piece of skin?
Customer: area
mysticdoc :

yes correct

Customer: how long will it be for my oral cancer risks to go down
Customer: would oral cancer be rare my age even though i have dipped for 14yrs?
mysticdoc :

Yes it is uncommon at your age group.

mysticdoc :

Usually it takes 3 to 4 yrs.

mysticdoc :

for the risk to go down.

Customer: do you think if there was anyway my denstist thought this could be a cancer or a precancer that he would have ordered a biopsy?
Customer: do you think i have quit in time?
mysticdoc :

yes he would have

mysticdoc :

and yes you quit in time.

Customer: is scar tissue in the mouth common and will it go away?
Customer: it kinda looks like a callous
mysticdoc :

yes it is common.

mysticdoc :

will go away over time

mysticdoc :

that is correct

Customer: ok. doc. so think if i stay quit that i should be ok?
mysticdoc :

yes absolutely

Customer: no way u think my denstist would have taken a chance with this if he though it was something
mysticdoc :

yes correct

Customer: thanks doc.
mysticdoc :

very welcome

mysticdoc :

Best wishes,
