I am male 65 years old and for the past three weeks I have been having frequent, burning urination. I have gone to two urologists and all the tests have come up normal. But the burning continues and this is driving me crazy.

Hello,

Associated pain during urination?

Have you undergone Ultrasound Whole Abdomen?

Pain in lower abdomen,flanks?

Nausea,vomiting,fever?

Have you undergone other blood work like CBC,PSA levels?

What is your occupation?

Are you taking any medications?

Any other medical history?

Have you started antibiotics before performing urine test?

Hello,
Thanks for providing more information.

Sorry for late reply and inconvenience.

Non specific urethritis occurs when no organisms are grown, however causing urethra infection due to non specific or unknown cause resulting in symptoms like burning sensation, pain during urination.

Sometimes, the urethritis can be caused by viruses, which cannot be treated with antibiotics and are not detected on urine examination.

For some men, nonspecific urethritis symptoms go away without treatment. Nonspecific urethritis caused by irritation or injury may or may not be treated with antibiotic medicine.

To help ease the pain, you may sit in a warm bath for 15 minutes at least two times a day.

Since no organisms were grown in the culture, an ultrasound should be done to rule out bladder neck obstruction, urinary passage obstruction like Urethral stricture,Renal stone that can be the main causes of infection.

Urethral swab culture should be done as a sample of fluid is collected from inside the urethra. This fluid is then checked for white blood cells and germs.

Blood work like CBC,ESR,PSA levels should be done.

You can try cranberry juice which can help in relieving burning sensation.

Hydrate yourself with plenty of fluids.

You should consult your Urologist again for further evaluation and management.

I hope this helps.

Hello,

Sorry for late reply and inconvenience as there was some technical error so i was unable to reply you back.

If your symptoms are not improving with Urelle so you can also try Pyridium which helps in relieving pain, burning sensation.

Diuretic can be a contributing factor as it causes frequent urination and sometimes dehydration resulting in burning sensation.

It's good to discuss this possibility with your doctor and your doctor may also opt for other anti-hypertensive medications after blood pressure monitoring.

In the meantime you should hydrate yourself with plenty of fluids.

You should consult your Urologist again for further evaluation and management.
