on the microdiscectomy have you ever heard of it with a fusion

Resolved Question:

on the microdiscectomy have you ever heard of it with a fusion im thinking that was what I understood I don't find anything on that and I did nt see anything on how long it lasts like my dad he had three back surgerys he called them clean outs then he got the open fusion his back is worse than mine did not no if what he had was the microdiscectomy 3 times or was it another procedure seems he should have gotten the fusion first the people I talk to seem to have better luck the first surgery than if they have to go have another is that common

Customer:

the orthopedic is stating that I have either a 1 or 2 level microdiscetmy or a I need a open fusion. I was seeing about the healing percentage rate of both procedures. Will I ever get any better, I have a lot of numbness in my leg. I have a wife and child and they are very concerned as well. This is between L5-and they have seen another herniated disc higher up. kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk]

911Doctor :

well, if you are being given the option for a two level microdiscectomy that is the preferred option. the recovery time is minimal. for an open fusion the recovery time is six months and often they fail, either soon or late. this is a question BEST answered by your surgeon, and I know you want some reassurance, but your surgeon is the one in posession of your MRI and is the one who can explain why a fusion MIGHT be better. from what you have told me, again, if you are being given an option, it is wise to go with the least invasive procedure available. if your symptoms are from the herniated discs then the microdiscectomy, if the surgeon feeels he can get to the herniated discs, is preferred. again, the healing time is very short, a few weeks, as opposed to the fusion which is months.

911Doctor :

as well, after a fusion, at some point, you are likely to herniate discs again as the fusion limitis mobility of the back and stressess the discs above and below the fusion.

911Doctor :

I do not see you in the chat. I am going to switch to the Q and A format to facilitate this discussion. If your question has been adequately answered I do so appreciate positive feedback. I plan to ask my sergion a lot of questions just trying to get some education before I go to get the best results do you no of any sites that mite tell me more about the micro discectomy with fuson I can only find one or the other from what I understand the open fusion and the micro discectomy with fusion is the same but the lesser one leaves the bones uncut and the open cuts it away
