Thank you. I returned to my spine surgeon 4 weeks ago. He x-rayed my spine and told me the trajectory of the spine looks good...I have a bracket and cage in the spine. No, I don't have any other unknown illness, but wonder what is going on with my muscles. 6 weeks ago I woke up with multiple charley horses in both calves and left foot. I also have butt pain with this, too.
Dear XXXXX,Thanks for the valuable info you had given.I've taken a close look at your question & the reply and come up with the following answer:
The symptoms you are having can be due to various causes:
Blood clots can form is the deep veins of the leg, causing ablockage in circulation. This may cause pain in the calf.Other probable cause can be:muscle strain, rupture of tendons, circulation disorders, thrombosis, nerve root compression,Deep vein Thrombosis(DVT), nerve compression syndromes, pressure on the spinal nerves such as that due to a herniated disk.
Other causes can be:
-Low potassium levels,-Muscle overextension-Dehydration,-Diabetes, -Neuro muscular disorders,-Excessive alcohol,You need tests like ultrasound,Arteriogram,CT scan, arterial-brachial index, like electromyography and nerve conduction studies, certain blood tests, electro physiological studies.
Exact diagnosis can only be made after physical & clinicalexamination. So I advice you to make an appointment with your doctor for thesetests & examination to know the exact cause & then treatment will bedone accordingly.
Hope this helped

Thank you. I did have surgery 18 months ago to remove L4/L5 disc herniations, with fusion and laminectomy. I have muscle weakness in the legs, as well as the cramping and rigidity.
Yes,the above causes are to be considered & blood clots should definetely be ruled out because of your past surgery 18 months ago.
Also other systemic causes & local causes will be ruled out by these tests.
The Exact underlying cause of these muscle weakness/cramps/rigidity can only be made after physical & clinical examination. So I advice you to make an appointment with your doctor for these tests & examination to know the exact cause & then treatment will be done accordingly.
Thank you. I must admit, I have become concerned. I have experienced cramping and heaviness in both legs--accompanied by breathlessness when I climb stairs, and it scares me.
Thank you for rating the answer as "Excellent service"
There can be some systemic cause also that may cause such symptoms like low potassium level, electrolyte imbalance. These cause will be ruled by having the blood tests.
In my opinion, you should go to ER to have these tests done & then treatment will be done accordingly.
