My wife was asleep when she woke with severe pain in her right ankle that radiates up her leg. There is no injury that she is aware of. the ankle is tender to the touch and to being moved. Any thoughts?

started when she was asleep. she has chills and diarrhea.

There can be an inflammation of the joint of ankle.

There can be a few reasons for the inflammation.

Gout can cause it.

Sometimes there can be inflammation of bursa.
