I got the tips of my fingers caught in my garage door yesterday. I kept an ice pack on them all day yesterday. I have blood under the nails and they are still swollen and hot at the tips. Should I go to the emergency room or will they improve over the next few days. Not really sure if the emergency room can do anything. I will tell you they hurt like hell.

Associated open wound/broken skin?

Are you taking any medications?

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

No broken skin.

I take Prevacid, Xanax, and Paxil

Thanks for providing more information.

As you have severe pain, swelling then it's good to visit ER to have an x-ray done to rule out fracture of the bones of the fingers as well as damage to the nerves and vessels.

The swelling in the fingers is due to soft tissue injury which is liable to take time in healing.

Any blood under the finger nails can be removed by drilling a small hole in the nail carefully to release the blood if required.

You will need analgesics like Motrin/Naproxen and may need antibiotics.

Also your Tetanus toxoid shot is updated.

So consult a doctor at ER or your family doctor ASAP.

I hope this helps.
