Hi. Lately, I have been experiencing times where all of a sudden I begin to feel my whole body become very hot and my skin turns a deep red color. I'm a 47 yr old female, I don't take any medications, and I'm not under a ton of stress. I've experienced hot flashes before but this is different. I'd appreciate any insight.

Dr. R. Bora :

Hello and welcome, I am happy to help you today.

Dr. R. Bora :

Are you post menopausal?

Customer:

I don't believe so. I never really went thru menopause.

Dr. R. Bora :

Thanks. So, is your menstrual cycle regular and normal.

Customer:

I haven't had one in awhile, for say about 2 and 1/2 yrs.

Dr. R. Bora :

Ok. so you are likely to be menopausal already.

Dr. R. Bora :

Absence of period for one year suggests menopause...

Customer:

i guess so.

Customer:

ok

Dr. R. Bora :

Have you been taking any hormones for the hot flashes?

Customer:

i thought i would expereience a lot of other symptoms

Customer:

i dont. I really never experienced many of them.

Dr. R. Bora :

Hot flashes is one of the symptoms...

Customer:

what are other symptoms

Dr. R. Bora :

Some women also feel depressed after menopause...

Customer:

and i only experienced about a handful of hot flashes

Dr. R. Bora :

However, you should check your thyroid hormone level too, high level causes excess body heat..

Customer:

ive dealt with depression my whole life

Customer:

i was wondering if it had something to do with my thyroid

Customer:

other than seeing a doctor, is there a way to get that checked

Dr. R. Bora :

Yes, that's what I just said...your thyroid may be overactive...

Dr. R. Bora :

Well, you have to check the blood thyroid hormone level and the thyroid gland through ultrasound..

Customer:

would i be gaining weight due to that as well

Dr. R. Bora :

Differs in every individual..some lose weight..

Customer:

i see

Dr. R. Bora :

So, how is your weight lately?

Dr. R. Bora :

Some women have found that alternative therapies have proved successful in reducing menopausal symptoms.

Dr. R. Bora :

Yoga, acupuncture, reflexology have been tried by some with success.

Customer:

ive gained about 10 pounds over the last year, which is so not like me, ive always been thin and if i ever needed to lose a few pounds, it was never hard, but this time i cant seem to lose any of it

Dr. R. Bora :

This could be due to menopause because estrogen helps to maintain body weight.

Customer:

i will try all of those

Dr. R. Bora :

You should check your thyroid hormone as well..

Customer:

all i got to say is getting old sucks lol

Dr. R. Bora :

Lol....everyone has to go through that phase of life!

Customer:

ok, i will do that as well

Dr. R. Bora :

HAVE A GREAT DAY..

Dr. R. Bora :
