This answer was rated:

BFF mid 60's, always excellent health and energetic developed sepsis fm kidney stone. 2 types blood infection at once, 1 E coli, other called AMC or? 6 days in hospital on strong antibiotic, Cipro? Home for nearly a wk now. Has abdominal bloating, other colon symptoms, no appetite or energy. WHAT CAN SHE DO, EAT, TAKE to restore her health?
When did she start with the bloating?

Any vomiting or diarrhea?

Is she still on the antibiotics?
Customer: replied 4 years ago.

Bloating within a couple days of release. No vomiting. Does still have some diarrhea like symptoms, says stool not normal color, very loose.
Is still on antibiotic pills. Had IV antibiotics in hospital.

I have wondered if the antibiotics have overwhelmed her digestive system or if she may have candisis (spelling?).

I suspect that she may have C. difficile as a cause for these symptoms. C. difficile is a bacteria that is resistant to many antibiotics and tends to overgrow in the colon when the antibiotics reduce the normal "healthy" bacteria in the colon.

A simple stool specimen test can confirm this diagnosis. If this is the problem, it is treated with a different antibiotics (usually metronidazole) and/or probiotics to restore the natural balance of healthy bacteria.

I told her to get some DanActive probiotic drink but do you have a better recommendation?

What foods, drinks would help? She is eating very little, does realize that she needs protein but says nothing sounds good and if something does, after just a few bites she is done. Has been eating a little oatmeal for bkfst, one day an egg but the rest has been like a small Frosty fm Wendy's. Hates Insure. Thanks for any help.

Florastor is one brand that many gastroenterologist recommend.

In many cases - a prescription antibiotic such as metronidazole (Flagyl) or vancomycin. Probiotics alone often are ineffective. I would suggest having her contact her physician about these symptoms.
