This answer was rated:

I am a 43 year ols female. I have been experiencing very bad cramps and burning sensation in my lower left abdomen. It occurred twiced with the past four months. It cames on with sudden cramp and within minutes I was weak, couldn't even change my clothes. I began to sweat and the pain increasing. I eventually had a bowel movement and at the same time felt nauseated. I have traced this cramoing when it started about a year ago and noticed it was due to spicy foods. Hoever, I do think there might be more to my issue. I will be scheduling an appointment with a Gastroenorologists but I would apprecitate any advise before my visit. Much appreciated.

Dr. R. Bora :

Hello and welcome, I am happy to help you today.

Dr. R. Bora :

So, do you get the "bad cramps" after you have had a spicy meal?

Customer:

I had the spicy food about a week ago

Customer:

before the occurence

Dr. R. Bora :

And you are having the cramps now?

Customer:

no

Dr. R. Bora :

How is your stool during the cramps?

Customer:

i also noticed that this happens just before my mentrusal cycle - a day or two before

Customer:

but only with the combination of spicy food

Dr. R. Bora :

How is your stool during the cramps?

Customer:

my stool was soft

Dr. R. Bora :

So, it was not loose like diarrhea.

Customer:

at times somewhat like diarrhea

Dr. R. Bora :

Sometimes, parasitic infection can cause such symptoms with cramps followed by loose stool.

Customer:

why does it ony happen just before my menstrual cycle

Dr. R. Bora :

During menses, chances of bacterial infection in the colon or the urinary tract is more. You can do good by taking supplements of probiotics daily available OTC.

Dr. R. Bora :

You should however get an ultrasound of the uterus and ovaries to exclude any other possibility of for the pain.

Customer:

I did have an ultra sounds done already and they were all okay

Dr. R. Bora :

OK.

Customer:

So this is why I think it is a colon issue

Dr. R. Bora :

Alright take probiotics regularly and foods rich in good bacteria like yogurt daily.

Customer:

can you reccommed a name of an OTC probiotic?

Customer:

funny you said that - I read alot online and had a Greek yougurt yesterday for the first time and got a little relief

Dr. R. Bora :

Yeah, that is always helpful.

Dr. R. Bora :

You can take OTC FLORASTOR.

Customer:
