Hi,
I have been fighting a head cold for about a week or so now. for about 12 hours now I've also have pink eyes with a little discharge coming from both of these. What do you think this could be?

Dr. Saha :

Hello,

Dr. Saha :

Welcome to Just Answer.

Dr. Saha :
Thanks for the question.
Dr. Saha :

How is the color of the discharge?

Customer:

clear/white, it was a little more then usually when waking up this morning.

Dr. Saha :

What treatment did you take for the cold?

Customer:

I have been talking Buckley's all in one, sudafed, cepacol sensations and drista. all over the counter meds

Customer:

"dristan" not drista

Dr. Saha :

There can be a viral infection.

Dr. Saha :

Viral conjunctivitis can affect both eyes.

Dr. Saha :

I would suggest to take an examination by doctor.

Dr. Saha :

You can now apply cold compress.

Dr. Saha :

Artificial tear can be used.

Dr. Saha :

Doctor can write antibiotic drop if he suspects a bacterial infection.

Dr. Saha :

If you have any follow up question, please do not hesitate to ask.

Customer:

Will a viral infection clear up on its own?

Dr. Saha :

Usually it clears up on its own.

Dr. Saha :

Sometimes antibacterial drop is used to prevent superinfection.

Dr. Saha :

Steroid drop can help to reduce the inflammation.

Customer:

Can these drops be bought over the counter?

Dr. Saha :

Those are used sometimes depending on the severity of inflammation. Artificial tear can be bought over the counter. Others are prescription medicines.

Customer:

I have eye drops at home called Isopto Artopine 1%, what is this eye drop used for?

Customer:

Should I bring it along with me to the doc. tomorrow. Do you think it is something he will say to use?

Dr. Saha :

This will not be suitable now.

Customer:

Ok, Thanks.

Dr. Saha :

This drop is used to dilate pupil in some conditions.

Customer:

I will visit my doc. tomorrow. Thanks for your help

Dr. Saha :
You are always welcome.
