I have had a recurring red sore on the outside of my right

This answer was rated:

I have had a recurring red sore on the outside of my right nostril for approximately six weeks. I've tried saline, as the sore seems on the inside as well and I've tried cortisone cream with no luck.

DR HASAN :

HI, Thanks for your question. My name isXXXXX and I am here to help you today with your question. I will be happy to assist you with your follow up questions also.

Customer:

Thanks

DR HASAN :

I am sorry to hear about your problem. I am going to address your primary concern and later you can ask anything you want.

Customer:

Thanks

DR HASAN :

The red sore can be related to boil nose which is basically infection of hair follicle.

DR HASAN :

These infections can recur.

Customer:

Ohh, what do I do about it?

DR HASAN :

I will address your question in two aspects; what you can do yourself and what your doctor can do for you. As far as what you can do yourself is concerned in such situations along with hydrocortisone one should apply over the counter available neomycin cream also.

DR HASAN :

hydrocortisone should be applied just when sores are there.

Customer:

Okay.

DR HASAN :

but neomycin should be continued for three to four weeks.

DR HASAN :

nose should be cleaned repeatedly three to four times daily with water.

Customer:

internally and externally?

DR HASAN :

Lastly if your symptoms keep recurring, see your doctor who can take a swab from sores to identify the cause.

DR HASAN :

and can give you antibiotics accordingly and prescription antibiotic creams.

DR HASAN :

Yes internally and externally both.

Customer:

Okay. A question for you. When these sores come to a head, what to do?

DR HASAN :

Same thing, which you can do for nose.

DR HASAN :

neomycin cream twice daily.

DR HASAN :

daily cleaning

DR HASAN :

and doctor's visit, if no help because sometime oral antibiotics are required.

Customer:

okay, so the neomycin should be applied twice daily, and the cortisone only when the sore is there

DR HASAN :

Yes

Customer:

okay, thank you very much. I think that is all. I guess my only other question about it would be, what is the cause?

DR HASAN :

The cause can be overgrowth of bacteria in these regions sometime without any cause ad sometime there can be some immunocompromised condition behind this.

DR HASAN :

but most of the times, no cause is there.

DR HASAN :

It can happen to any healthy indiviual.

DR HASAN :

indiviual

DR HASAN :

Sorry

DR HASAN :

Individual

DR HASAN :

:)

Customer:
