Dr Brims : Hello, welcome to Justanswer, I will try to assist you with your medical question, and any medical information you seek
Dr Brims : Do you have any medical conditions or take any medication?
Customer: Hello Dr Brims
Customer: I woke up this morning with my right side under rib cage feeling tender. Hurts only when I cough or sneeze
Dr Brims : Can you see my last question?
Customer: I don't have any medical conditions I know of other then Gerd... I have stomache issues and take Pepcid and Tums
Dr Brims : Do you have a cough?
Customer: I will occasionally take ibuprofen but mostly I don't take medicines
Dr Brims : Can you see my question about a cough?
Customer: Yes I cough sometimes, I had a cold
Customer: I sometimes will cough after I eat too if its fried
Customer: But yes I've had a cough
Customer: A few weeks back pretty bad cough, better now
Customer: I feel fine other then the pain in my side when I cough and sneeze really twinges
Dr Brims : Okay, what has happened is you have likely strained an intercostal muscle, which a muscle between your ribs
Customer: Only hurts while I am coughing then pain goes away
Dr Brims : It will take 2-3 weeks to heal
Customer: Okay that makes sense... anything I can do to heal it faster?
Dr Brims : The pain may be improved with an anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen or aleve
Dr Brims : Those are the best options
Customer: I took some ibuprofen and didn't notice it helped but this isn't something that will heal overnight is it?
Customer: How much should I take?
Dr Brims : No, it will not heal overnight
Dr Brims : Up to 600mg every 8 hours is okay
Customer: Okay thanks for your help... I appreciate it.
Dr Brims : You're very welcome
