I broke a couple or ribs in a fall nearly 3 weeks ago. A few days later, I started to suffer from nights sweats, and the doctor said I had a slight urine infection, for which I was given anti-biotics. That has cleared now, but I am still getting night sweats, though not as severe. My temperature is normal, and I do not feel hot when I go to bed, but wake up a few hours later, having sweated a lot. I am 70 years of age. Could this just be a natural reaction of my body to the shock of falling and breaking my ribs?

Hi,

Are you taking any medicine currently?

Any other medical illness?

Stress and anxiety issues?

Chest pain?

Weight changes?

Mood swings?

Have been taking some painkillers, but stopped now. No other medical illness or stress and anxiety issues. Have chest pain but only from broken ribs. My weight has reduced a little since my broken ribs, as I haven't felt very hungry, No mood swings.

Hi,
Thanks for providing more information.

Night sweats can be associated with urinary tract infection.

And as you have already taken antibiotics with little relief so you need to be seen by your doctor and undergo Urine culture and sensitivity test again.

Also your thyroid function test,Serum estradiol should be checked.

It may be possible to have such night sweats after injury however it usually lasts for few days.

Sometimes low blood sugar levels can result in night sweats so your blood sugar should be monitored.

So you should consult your doctor again.

Avoid spicy,fried foods.

Hydrate yourself.

My doctor tested my urine earlier this week and said that the anti-biotics had cleared my urine infection, and there was no longer an infection.

Hi,

Thanks for the follow-up.

It's good that your urinary tract infection has resolved.

However as your night sweats are not improving so you need to consult your doctor again for other potential underlying causes and proper treatment.

You can black cohosh supplement.

Avoid caffeine,alcohol,spicy,fried food.
