hi, I'm a woman in my 20s. Having discomfort and throbbing in my right thigh above my knee. Feeling an ache coming from that area. Should I be worried?

Dr. Nomi :

Hi,

Dr. Nomi :

Do you do any sports or exercises?

Customer:

very little. I'm petite, slim. work a sedentary job

Customer:

I can see the area on my thigh (anterior-to-inner-thigh) pulsating

Dr. Nomi :

For how long you having this?

Customer:

today is 3rd day i've noticed it.

Customer:

had some hand tremors in the grocery store yesterday too.

Dr. Nomi :

Any prominenet veins?

Customer:

not really

Dr. Nomi :

Headache?

Customer:

no more than usual (-:

Dr. Nomi :

Any history of fever?

Customer:

no

Dr. Nomi :

Any other blood problem ?

Customer:

No. However, my father took blood thinners for clotting... because of my sedentary job, Im concerned about deep vein thrombosis, etc.

Dr. Nomi :

Okay.Is there swelling or skin color change?

Customer:

no

Dr. Nomi :

I think nothing to worry about it is just a muscle fasciculation which are benign pulsations.

Customer:

it does hurt though

Dr. Nomi :

They happen some times under stress and some times for no other apparent reason.

Dr. Nomi :

Its not DVT.

Customer:

you think it's muscle related but not vein?

Dr. Nomi :

Yep ,muscle only.

Customer:

ok. thanks -- even with the leg starting to have a little numbness?

Dr. Nomi :

Hmmm....then it is more than muscle can be a nerve impinged at the back.

Dr. Nomi :

However,keep an eye on symptoms.

Customer:

i'll try to stop crossing my legs... maybe that would help?

Dr. Nomi :

yep.

Dr. Nomi :

give massage.

Customer:

k thx.

Dr. Nomi :

Customer:

is sex a good idea under the circumstances?
