This answer was rated:

My periods are always irregular. I only get them every couple of months and usually it's only brown discharge for a few days. I am not pregnant. I haven't taken birth control in a year and a Half. I usually don't eat very much so I started making myself eat more and immediately my body started producing a little bit of brown discharge like its trying to have a period so bad. I'm 20 years old. Please help me.

Dr. Nomi :

Hi,

Dr. Nomi :

On the basis of all information provided it looks like you are having some hormonal irregularity.

Dr. Nomi :

Most common reason in your age can be polycystic ovarian syndrome and endometriosis. Both of these conditions are diagnosed on the basis of ultrasound .So now you need to make one appointment for assessment by your OB /Gynae doctor.

Dr. Nomi :

Please ask if you have any more querries.

Customer: I thought endometriosis was when you have painful periods ?
Dr. Nomi :

Yes ,not necessarily it is with painful periods.

Dr. Nomi :

Iron deficiency can be one reason to consider.

Dr. Nomi :

This can be tested by blood hemoglobin levels.

Dr. Nomi :

We can talk in detail if you like.

Customer: If I can't go to the doctor what do you recommend I try. It can't be healthy to not have a cycle
Dr. Nomi :

Yes ,you are right. As we were discussing that iron deficiency can be one reason.

Dr. Nomi :

So you can try taking some over the counter iron medicines.

Dr. Nomi :

Also eat more fruits like apples and green leafy vegetables.

Dr. Nomi :

Some time it helps with this situation.
