Thanks for your question.

I have had 2 tympanoplasties due to ear drum rupture (diving accident). 2nd surg was 1.5yrs ago and doc cleared me to fly 9 months ago but haven't been any where until now - have a trip coming up. He prescribed dexamethasone 4mg - take 1 - 4 hours before flying to help w/eustachian tube pressure (have residual eustachian tube dysfunction). I'm wondering - if my flight is 4 hrs should I be taking a 2nd dose an hour before landing?
That is a good question.
Dexamethasone is a strong steroid and the actin lasts for about 6 hours.
Hence, the second dose is not necessary.
But if you do experience symptoms, you may take the second dose.
Besides, dexamethasone, you can also take sudafed 120 mg twice daily for 2 days.
Ahh - okay, I should be good then. I was trying to figure out how long it lasts reading drug profile online but kind got lost in all the adverse affects, etc.
This is a decongestant and will be helpful with dexamethasone.
sudafed for 2 days before I leave or after I land?
I have Afrin spray and was going to use that 1-2 hrs before flight
1 day before and after the flight.
Thanks so much. These little extra tips get lost sometimes when you're actually in office 'cause naturally my doc has been more focused on making sure 2nd graft took!
