This answer was rated:

my husband has notices slight swellings on both his temples. Left side little larger that right. He has been on doxicillian for 11 days and has also had a slight temp that hovers around 99 to 99.5. Could these be related and possibly a reaction to the anti-biotics/?

Dr Brims :

Hello, welcome to Justanswer, I will try to assist you with your medical question, and any medical information you seek

Dr Brims :

When did the swelling start?

Customer:

a day or two ago

Dr Brims :

Is it painful?

Customer:

if i press on it there is some discomfort

Dr Brims :

What is he on antibiotics for?

Customer:

the possibility of lyme's

Dr Brims :

Okay, and visual disturbance?

Customer:

none

Dr Brims :

Okay, this may be due to inflammation of one of his temporal arteries, and he may require steroids to treat it

Customer:

can this be due to the low grade temp that he has been running since being on the antibiotics and how urgent is it that he get to an md?

Dr Brims :

I would recommend he see an MD today, the low grade temp may be a result of this

Customer:

ok - thanks -

yes i'm trying to decide if there are any other questions i should ask.

Dr Brims :

ok

Customer:

he has been so under the weather since he first started with a testicular infection and had a reaction to the antibiotics that he was put on at the time that i'm really confused as to what other info i should be giving you. The tiredness, temperature since then have brought up the lyme. BUT the blood tests have come back negative except that his cbc showed the white blood cell count up a bit.

Dr Brims :

I think they should do a CRP and ESR blood tests

Customer:

can you explain, just a little, what they would show?

Dr Brims :

If there is excess inflammation in his body, which would show if he requires steroids

Customer:

ok - will be armed, at least, with a bit of info. Thanks

Dr Brims :

You're quite welcome
