hi. the peak action of xanax (when it is at its highest level in your bloodstream) is 1-2 hours. the effects may last anywhere from 4-8 hours depending on the person. any trace of the medication should be gone from your body about 36 hours after taking the medication. hope this helps!

Are you asking how long the drug is going to be effective OR how long the drug can be detected in urine drug tests?
Customer: replied 4 years ago.
effective

Unfortunately, there are many factors that influence the duration of action of this drug including previous use - since with time patients develop tolerance (the same dose has less and less effect over time), interaction with other medications, and the preparation (sustained release or immediate release).

Generally, this medication is prescribed 3 times a day, since it has a relatively short duration of action.

You should NOT increase the dose or change the frequency of the dose that was prescribed to you since this can be dangerous. If you do not believe that your dose is effective, you need to discuss this with your personal physician.
