Do you retain water around ovulation? I have not consumed over

Customer Question

Do you retain water around ovulation? I have not consumed over 1000 calories all week and have ran 3 miles 3 days. I was down a 1.5 lb and then back up this morning! I know I am ovulating due to the pain and swelling I get each month. Am I just retaining water?

Thank you for using JustAnswer Health.

Yes, water retention can occur at the time of ovulation.

This is especially likely (that your weight gain is due to water retention due to hormonal changes around the time of ovulation) if you find that this is occuring at every ovulation. Ovulation typically happens on cycle day 14, in a 28 day cycle, the time period between ovulation and the next period is constant, around 14 days (In a 35-day cycle ovulation would happen around day 21 and on dat 10 in a 24-day cycle)
