What causes stomach lining thickening, extremely inflammed

This answer was rated:

What causes stomach lining thickening, extremely inflammed intestines with normal blood work?
hello
Where are you getting these findings?
Customer: replied 4 years ago.
I had exploratory surgery Wednesday (May 30th, 2012) and the surgeon saw my intestines "extremely inflammed" and yesterday I had a CT Scan at the Emergency Room because I was in severe pain like I have never felt before. The CT Scan showed stomach lining thickening but CBC and Chemistry tests were normal.
OK
Did the surgeon take biopsies?
Customer: replied 4 years ago.
NO, because it was a gyn surgery, we thought I had adhesions that was causing pain but when he got in there it was my intestines inflammed that is causing pain. I have an appt with a GI dr on the 18th of this month that is going to set up a colonoscopy. I am worried about colon cancer because 10 family members that I know of has or has passed away from colon cancer (including my mom) but when I research stomach lining thickening all I can find is it could be stomach cancer. I do have an elevated CEA of 8 ng/ml (I am a smoker)
OK
What I was going to say is the crohn's disease [inflammatory bowel disease] could cause all of this..and you need a colonoscopy and biopsies.
Which it sounds like you are going to have.
Ulcerative colitis is possible but would not affect the stomach.
So a scope of the colon, and even the stomach, would be in order now.

So, I shouldn't worry about tumors or cancer in the lining of my stomach? Or in my colon for that matter? The reason I am so worried is because my mom was only 44 when she passed away from colon cancer.
It is good to screen for cancer but it would not be my choice based on your findings..this sounds like a more diffuse inflammatory process at this point, as I have mentioned above.
