Re: armpit rash. My doctor suspects that it's Tinea Versicolor, although she didn't have time to test it. Should I get Lamisil cream as she suggested, or try any of the following: wash my armpits with shampoo containing selenium sulfide, use some leftover tubes of clotrimazole or miconazole cream, and/or get an antifungal deodorant spray to replace my regular deodorant? Can I continue to shave and use deodorant with any of these remedies?

P.S. I'm allergic to oral fluconazole.

What does this look like>

Customer:

reddish-tan blotches

Dr. Owen :

Do these look like rings?

Customer:

no, kind of "snaky"

Customer:

snakey

Dr. Owen :

Does sound like Tinea

Dr. Owen :

Well you can try any anti-fungal - such as Clotrimazole, Vagistat (tioconazole), or Lamisil

Dr. Owen :

Also, you can try mixing in Hydrocortisone cream (sometimes a prescription to Triamcinlone might be needed too).

Dr. Owen :

I hope this helps

Dr. Owen :

You might want to just clip your hair, and not shave to the skin.

Dr. Owen :

As for testing - this can be difficult - but close skin cultures and a possible biopsy might be necssary - but try the medications first -

thank you

Customer:

ok. So, should I apply the antifungal cream, let it soak in, then use my regular deodorant? Or get an antifungal deodorant spray?

Dr. Owen :

Well just wash yourself well with anti-bacterial soap and stop the deodorant for a week.

Dr. Owen :

if you can find an anti-fungal deodorant then try that - but it is okay to do without deodorant for a week - just keep yourself clean daily

Customer:

Ok, thank you :)
