Vicodin contains a narcotic called hydrocodone.
This is an addictive drug.
But in severe back pain or cancer related or surgery related pain, vicodin can be used effectively.
But daily use may cause tolerance to the dose requiring increasing dose.
This increasing dose can cause side effects.
Hence, you may use vicodin on as needed basis after discussing with your doctor.
Otherwise, you should stay with anti inflammatory medications like tylenol extra strength or naproxen or celebrex.
Corticosteroid injections in the back is another good option for long term pain control.
Physical rehabilitation to strengthen the muscles of the back should be considered as effective treatment option.
Natural supplements turmeric, garlic, ginger extracts also help with the chronic pain symptoms.
