Hello JA customer,

I am Dr.Charles and I’m happy to help with your question today.

Vaginal tear due to sexual intercourse are usually minor & stitches are rarely required.Mostly they can be managed at home. But if following symptoms appear, then it considered a deep cut/tear & doctor's examination is required:

-Severe pain
-Loss of blood from tear
-Large cut reaching upto anus
-Extremely soreness
-Extreme redness
-Major swelling

If any of these symptoms appear, then you need to consult your doctor at ER & stitches may be required accordingly.Usually stitches/sutures will dissolve on their own.Antibiotics may be prescribed accordingly to prevent infection.

Hope this helped.

My main motive is your satisfaction. If you still have any questions in mind, please feel free to ask.
Regards-

When you say "mostly can be managed at home" do I just need to keep it clean and let it heal on its own? Should I use anything on it like neosporin?

I am happy to answer your follow up question.

Other than waiting till you are healed there is not much you can do except take preventative measures.Do not douche and do not engage in sexual intercourse for next few weeks. This will give your vagina enough time to heal.Keep your genital area clean and dry.Avoid panties made from synthetic materials.

Apply ointment vagmycin vaginal cream. It is a broad spectrum antibiotic with an anti-fungal agent. It is available as over the counter without prescription & it will prevent the infection. The tear/cut will get healed by its own with time.

Hope this helped.
