I am currently living in China and just developed a hard knot at the lower skull on the back right side of my head. It is uncomfortable to lay on and hurt when I look up or tur my head to the right. Could this be the same as getting a knot in your back maybe a stress knot. I don't really have a dr close by to find out. The pain goes down into my neck and is causing me to have minor headaches.
Optional Information: Person's Gender: Female Person's Age: 27 Already Tried: I've taken Ibuprofen and just started putting a hot compress on the knot and try to rub it, which hurts to rub. I plan on also going to get a massage to relieve some of the tension.
Greetings,How long the symptoms are there? What is the size of the knot? Is it increasing in size? Is it tender to touch? Is there any other symptom? Is there any significant past illness?Regards.
No past illness. It's only been about 4 days since I noticed the pain and the knot. It's about the size of a quarter. It is hard and hurts when I touch it. The only symptoms are headache and the pain that goes down into my neck. I've been a lot more tired than usual and a bit stressed lately.
Oh and the size is no increasing or decreasing.
Thank you for the input. The knot can be due to infection like folliculitis or pimples. It can be firm initially but not hard. The other possibilities can be infected sebaceous cyst or enlarged lymph node. In infection, the lymph node can be enlarged and tender to touch. If the folliculitis or pimples are small, they can clear off by itself like by applying moist warm compress & keeping the area clean. In many cases no treatment is required . You can apply bacitracin or neosporin antibiotic cream. Sometimes oral antibiotics can be needed. Ibuprofen can reduce the inflammation and pain. Infected cyst or folliculitis may need drainage. If it persists, it needs to be examined by doctor for evaluation and prescription. If you have any query, please feel free to ask.It will be my privilege to assist you.Regards.
