I just went to the bathroom and had a bowel movement. I did feel like I strained myself pushing. Now I have a swelled or raised bruise purple in color the size and width of my thumb coming from my anas (inside and outside if that makes sense. Please excuse my directness) Did I damage a vein?

This is likely to be a prolapsed hemorrhoid. Following measures would help to resolve it;

1) Warm sitz bath; sitting in a warm tub of water.
2) Take a laxative so there is no need of straining.
3) Drink plenty of water, so stool would be soft.
4) Take lot of fiber in diet and fiber supplements.
5) Avoid chillies and spicy food.
6) Apply proctosedyl or Preparation-H.

Please feel free for your follow up questions.

I would be happy to assist you further, if you need any more information.

The bruise (under skin) extends from my rectum inside and out. Looks like a large blood blister purple in color and the size and width of my thumb. I want to make sure I explained myself clearly. Thank you.
You are very welcome.

Your description perfectly fits in to a prolapsed hemorrhoid. It is likely to resolve on it's own, usually, by the measures we discussed.

The other possibility is rectal prolapse for it, but is rare, compared to hemorrhoid.

It is privilege assisting you.
