I have just noticed small bright yellow spots on my right hand. These spots look like I've taken a highlighter to my skin. I am currently breastfeeding and not eating as much as I should be. WHat could be causing these spots and should I be worried?

Any change in your diet lately? Any extra carrots?
Customer: replied 4 years ago.
No extra carrots. I have been breastfeeding and probably eating less than I should be.
OK--this looks like a condition called carotenemia--an elevation of beta carotene in the blood. Usually it comes from the diet being high in foods that have this in them like carrots. This is benign and usually resolves on its own, but have you doctor take a look.

Could this be caused by a lot of red pepper?
Bingo--that could well be the cause.
