I have had heart burn for quite some time. done bunch of checks and it seems to be just acid reflux. aside from taking prilosec I also try to eat slower, chew my food more, and reduce stress.

Were you ever screened for H pylori--the so-called ulcer bug?

yes. I had some of that and took antibiotics. did that regiment twice actually.

OK. Potential risk of long term use includes osteoporosis and potential fractures, possible liver damage, and possible yeast or Candidal esophagitis. I say potential because not all patients on long term Prilosec get any of these complications. In general, it's best to take it for a few months and then not take it for a few.
