Sharp pain on left side below waist line. Bowel movements

Resolved Question:

Sharp pain on left side below waist line. Bowel movements are normal. I do have a small hernia under my belly button. This pain comes and goes. When it comes, it stays around for a couple of weeks at a time. Sometimes the pain can be so sharp to wake you up. Family history of ulcerative collitis and chrohns disease

Does the pain accompany, nausea, vomiting, bloating, tenderness of abdomen, urinary symptoms or constipation / diarrhea?
Any significant past medical illness?

tenderness of abdomen. Feels like some swelling underneath skin. Pain hurts even worse if you bend over trying to touch your chest to your thighs. Pain is sharp and burning type pain. No signaficant past illnesses. I do have trouble with heartburn and indigestion. I take 2 prevacid daily by instruction of a doctor

With no change in the bowel movements; crohn's and ulcerative colitis are not likely. Your symptoms are most likely due to mild grade recurrent diverticulitis. Diverticulitis is known to cause frequent symptoms. An high fiber diet and probiotics would be advised. This is unlikely to be related to the belly hernia.
