My husband has had sharp, stabbing pain in the kidney area

Resolved Question:

My husband has had sharp, stabbing pain in the kidney area (back right side) (started Thursday night) We assumed it was a UTI or bladder infection so he's been taking AZo and srinkinf lots of water and cranberry. Yesterday he felt pretty good but woke up this morning not feeling as well as yesterday. His urine is clear and there is no burning. He has had a few hot flashes.

Does the pain ever radiate around and toward his groin?

His response: maybe a little

Without a fever or other urinary symptoms, although this could just be a pulled muscle, he may be trying to pass a kidney stone. Usually with plenty of fluids, they pass in a matter of two or three days, but it would be a good idea for him to get a ct scan to detect it since if it doesn't pass on its own, it'll have to be extracted.

Today he has had a few hot flashes. Is this a symtom?

It can be, but it could potentially be a kidney infection, too.

We will not be able to get in to the doctor until tomorrow. Should we just continue with lots of fluids until then? Which is better?

Lots of fluids, and if it were a kidney infection the cranberry juice would be best. For now I think it's OK to wait until tomorrow.

Thanks so much. This is what I thought but wanted to make sure.
