My arms have been itching for a few weeks now. Started in my armpits. Discontinued use of Ban - applied hydrocortisone cream at night - went away. Now it's on my anterior upper arm and proximal forearm. Itches and burns. Had an episode of bumps yesterday. Got Hypoallergenic Laundry Detergent and soap yesterday. This morning it came back. Claritan helped at work yesterday. Took Benadryl before bed last nite.

From what you describe the itching seems to be related to ?allergic contact dermatitis.Anti histaminic medicine and steroids help with the symptoms suggest that these symptoms are due to allergy.Claritin (loratadine) is an antihistamine used to treat the symptoms of allergies. You should continue with anti allergic medications and also apply anti itch lotion like calamine lotion. Also you should undergo a blood test called AEC.(Absolute Eosinophil count)This number rises in patients with allergic conditions.A raised AEC usually confirms the diagnosis of allergy. However there are special test which are done to confim the exact allergen.(Comprehensive Allergy Panel)You can consult your doctor or a dermatologist for further diagnosis and management.
It would have been nice if you dialogued with me instead of just "copy and paste" an answer.
Hi,Have you seen a doctor yet regarding this condition?Any blood work done?Any previous history of skin disease? What is your occupation?Any other medical illness?Do you take medicine for any other illness? What is your occupation?
Haven't gone yet - started here - didn't know there was a charge but I thought I would try as it's the weekend and can't go to the doc until next week.No blood work done.No previous skin disease.I'm am a Certified Athletic Trainer/Sports Medicine.I only take a low dose estrogen x 1 year and Klonopin for Restless Leg Syndrom x 12 years.
Hi,Apart from allergic contact dermatitis, other possible causes may include Neurodermatitis, brachoradial pruritus(This is a condition that affects nerves and/or nerve roots of arm and forearm). So a clinical examination by a doctor should be considered in your case.In the meantime you can continue to take Claritin and apply cool compresses on affected area.I hope this helps.
