My husband has been suffering from chronic depersonalization

Customer Question

My husband has been suffering from chronic depersonalization for 15 years now. It is really affecting his social and work abilities. Our relationship is very rocky because of it. I have been supportive for the past 12 years now but its really getting in the way. He's tried all kinds of traditional meds with no luck. I am now resorting to a more natural remedy. Any suggestions? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

According to one of the several theories trying to explain the etiology of Depersonalization disorder, Serotonin neurotransmitter deficiency may play a role in causing depersonalization episodes and Depersonalization disorder generally show favorable response to SSRI antidepressant such as Fluoxetine, Sertraline. I am assuming that these medicines have already been tried in his case with no result.

If now, you are searching for some natural remedy, you can discuss with his doctor about trying various natural herbal products such as Saint John's Wort or 5HTP used for treating depression and anxiety because they also work mainly by enhancing Serotonin and may be useful in his case.

I am giving you a link below, kindly go through it to know more about various options available.

Psychotherapy specially Cognitive Behavior Therapy may also be helpful in his case if not already tried.
