How long are you having the symptoms?
Do you take any other medicine?
Did you have any test?
Do you have any other symptom or previous illness?

Customer: replied 4 years ago.

Had it approx two days.

I haven't taken anything aside from neurofen and I haven't had any tests done and no other symptoms aside from what I have mentioned.

Thank you for the information,
You are likely having a respiratory infection.
This can cause sore throat on the left side, difficulty in swallowing, talking.
The middle ear is connected with the back of the throat by Eustachian tube.
This maintains the air pressure with the atmosphere.
This portion can get inflamed & cause pain when the tube is blocked from any cold or upper respiratory infection.
Pain in left ear can be related to it.
There can be collection of fluid there but not infected called serous otitis media.
In some cases it can be infected causing purulent otitis media where you will need antibiotic.
Sometimes the Eustachian tube block can be helped by nasal decongestant spray.
Anticold tablets like advil cold or tylenol cold can help.
You can also apply warm moist compress to ear.
Warm salt water gargling can be soothing.
I feel you need an examination by doctor when the pain is much.
Throat swab, blood counts & other tests can be needed.
I hope this information helps.
I will be happy to assist, if you need any clarification.
Please feel free for any follow up query.
Best wishes.

Is there anything I could do for immediate relief as it is Christmas today?!

Thanks again

Expert:  Dr. Saha replied 4 years ago.

You can try those measures which I wrote for immediate relief.
You can try anticold tablets like advil cold or tylenol cold instead of nurofen, if you have.
You can also apply warm moist compress to ear.
Putting oil in ear may not help.
You can do warm salt water gargling.
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of salt needs to be dissolved in an 8-ounce of warm water.
This can be soothing.
Pl try to keep good hydration by drinking plenty of fluid.
