Hello,

Several months ago, I started having chest pains. These pains are also in my upper back- directly where my heart is, as if you were looking through my heart from the front. I have had two stress tests- a regular and echo test. The doctor said, there is nothing wrong. Without noticing, I stopped taking my birth control pills several months ago and started taking them again about 5 days ago. Within 3 days of taking them again, I have started having chest discomfort and the pain in my back again. I have no known serious medical problems- I'am about 20+ pounds overweight and have had left shoulder surgery about 2 1/2 years ago.

Hi,

Dr. Singh :

It seems like your heart has been worked up for these chest pains and doesnt seem to be the cause of it. Other causes of chest pain include gastrointestinal problems such as GERD, gastritis, ulcers; pulmonary causes such as pneumonia, pulmonary emboli, aneursym should be considered. Now this connection with the birth control may be coincidental or related, it is hard to tell. Medical problems such as pulmonary emboli and aneurysms can occur in women taking birth control pills so should explored further. I recommend you see your primary care doctor regarding this, or if your symptoms become worse go to the ER.
