Hello,
Welcome to justanswer and thank you for your question.

Well, A staph infection is contagious if the wound is weeping or draining, and if people share daily routine items like- towels or other items that are contaminated.
During outbreak, there are high chances of transmission of staph infection.
If you are having outbreak at this time, then you should let your boss and other persons know about this issue.
Also If the sore becomes unusually painful or red, get immediate medical attention.

I would like to let my boss know what precautions she should take as several staff work there and we prepare meals for seniors. What actions should she take. I outbreak was sore but not seeping until tonight. She does not need the health dept shutting her down. So more info would help before I tell her and how long should I stay away from work.

Staph infection can go is transmitted by direct skin-to-skin contact with someone who has an active infection.
Trauma to the skin (such as cuts, sores, shaving, insect bites, or "turf burns) can easily transfer this infection.
It is advised that you should wear protective garments (for example, masks, gloves, and gowns).
Once outbreak get resolved, then you can go for work.
During outbreak, avoid going to public places.
