Resolved Question:

I had gallbladder surgery on Aug 18th 2011 first week or so had diarrhea now I am having terrible constipation no movements for 4 or five days. Is this normal.. Laxatives produce a small amount of bowel movement but not much.. What can I do and is this normal?

drknowsbest : Are you there
drknowsbest : This is definitely not typical with gallbladder removal
drknowsbest : Diarrhea is more comon
drknowsbest : However with any surgery there can be adhesions (scarring) which can cause blockage
drknowsbest : There is no way to know but sometimes an X-ray of the abdomen can localize a blockage
drknowsbest : For now stay on a stool softener like colace and increase fluid and fiber but I would consult your surgeon

My surgeon told me this has nothing to do with the surgery. He refused to follow up as it was not related.

Then consult your primary dr surgeons tend to sign off unless right after you have a problem but certainly could be related

Done that too. And seen two GI doctors.

Have they done an X-ray?
Also there is a prescription for constipation I use often works well called amitiza have they mentioned or tried this
The only real way to know if it has scarred believe it or not is to go in surgically with a scope so you may want to try the med first if you haven't
