i understand but it is a grand final and i was thinking if i wore some kind of protection for the thumb,i might be a chance to play.

Padded thumb braces which cover the part of hand (base of the thumb) are available but you have to be very cautious, when you handle the ball to prevent the injury. The brace can be tailor made by an orthotist (polypropylene braces which are very strong and still light).
