I am 57 yr.old women with a creatinine level of 0.96 and egfr=>60. My creatinine level has been up to .1 this has been going on for 2yrs. Should I be seeing a kidney specialist? Is there anything I can do to help my kidneys?

Do you have diabetes or high blood pressure?

Are you on any kind of medications?

Any significant past medical history or family history?

What did your the ultrasound for the kidney show?

I take Levothroxine 112mg once a day

Bupropion xl 300 once a day

Simvastatin 40mg at night

one 81 ml baby aspirin


kidney ultrasound was normal

Father died at 42 of heart attack


2005 had emerg spleenectomy from accident

no diabetets

blood pressure borderline

Ideally you should seek a nephrologist opinion. This is just for the cautionary reason, as most of the nephrologist may like to give you a medicine called as ACE inhibitor. This preserves the kidney functions. The nephrologist would also like to further probe to look for any underlying issue by getting microscopic protein estimation in urine (24 hours collection). If nothing abnormal is found, just giving ACE inhibitors and annual eGFR estimation are done for follow up.
