Ive been having intermittent knee pain for a few weeks now.

This answer was rated:

I've been having intermittent knee pain for a few weeks now. I'm not very active, I take a Zumba class once or twice a week, that's about it. I've done a lot of research online, but nothing perfectly matches my symptoms: My left knee, inside, shooting pain. It lasts a few hours and then goes away only to come back a day or two later. What I find most interesting about the pain is that if I stand and try to lift my foot behind me (creating a 90 degree angle with my knee) the pain is quite strong. If I rest my toe on the ground behind me and do a knee bend (with my other leg), using no muscles in my left leg at all, I have full range of motion with my left knee; no pain at all. So, I would conclude that it can't be a bone/joint problem or it would hurt whether the move was intentional or not. So muscle? Ligament? Bursitis? Any ideas?!

Hello,

Dr. AM. MD. :

Is pain related to movement or you get pain on rest also?

Customer:

My knee was very painful last night. I went to bed and everything was fine. It was pretty cold last night, so I was kind of sleeping in a ball and I woke up with fairly bad knee pain.

Customer:

Sorry, I may not have answered your question accurately: it is mostly related to rest. I work at a desk most of the day.

Customer:

Hello?

Customer:

Not for myself (no fever), but my mother and grandfather have knee problems. My mother has had both knees replaced. I'm not sure what the underlying medical conditions were for either of them.

Dr. AM. MD. :

Any strecting bending which can creat pressure on knee?

Customer:

For myself, I have always had flat feet and just recently discovered that it has been slowly twisting my spine. I have been using orthopedics in my shoes for the past year. My knee might be connected to that, maybe?

Dr. AM. MD. :

how much pain you have now?

Dr. AM. MD. :

On scale of ten?

Customer:

No history of trauma.

Dr. AM. MD. :

Any swelling on back of knee?

Customer:

With my leg straight; no pain at all. If I try to bend it; pain is a 3. When I woke up it was an 8.

Customer:

No swelling anywhere. The pain always slowly goes away over several hours.

Dr. AM. MD. :

No pain at all when walking either...just when I bend it to 90 degrees or more.
