I am sick. Have chest congestion and headache with a fever of 99.3; no sore throat. I have been taking mucinex dm that has helped the cough. But because I have a slight fever, do I have a bacterial infection, sinus that I need an antibiotic for?
Hello,I am sorry you are not feeling well,When did your symptoms start? Are you having any difficulty breathing?
Thank you for clarifying,Most likely what you have is a viral respiratory illness. Both bacteria and viruses can cause a fever...If you are coughing up phlegm, you may have bronchitis, which is usually viral.Pneumonia, which can also cause a cough with phlegm, will usually cause a fever of at least 100.3, shortness of breath and possibly some pain in the chest as well. For now, I would treat your symptoms with what you are doing.I recommend seeing your doctor if you develop:A fever of 100.3 or higherPain in the chestShortness of breathSymptoms that persist beyond 7-10 daysI hope that you feel better,Feel free to ask any follow up questions,If you are satisfied with my help, please remember to click accept.
