Hello,

Are you having chest pain?
Severe headache?
Shortness of breath?
Numbness or tingling on one side of the body?
Do you have a history of high blood pressure?

my wife has had a series of panic attacks over the last few week and has chosen to take her blood pressure this morning, which has showed high readings, she has told me she is dizzy.
Thank you for clarifying..

I am sorry that she is not feeling well and, as you may know, panic can raise blood pressure which can then lead to panic.

Her blood pressure reading is high but not considered what we call a "hypertensive urgency or emergency". When we see blood pressures approaching 180/110 or higher, this warrants evaluation.
If your wife develops chest pain or tightness, severe headache, shortness of breath or a worsening of her dizziness (if she is imbalanced, having difficulty walking etc). then take her to the emergency room.

Otherwise, I would not continuously check her pressures or it may continue to rise because she is worried. Perhaps check in an hour or two (unless she is feeling worse, then check it again sooner).

Have her follow up with her regular doctor today.

is this reading high?
Yes, as I mentioned above, it is high.

A normal blood pressure is less than 120/80.
Pre-high blood pressure is between 120-139/80-89

High blood pressure is any reading over 140/90.

Again, an urgently high blood pressure is considered a reading 180/110 (either number). Or, if symptoms are occurring with a high reading.
