Can i stop taking deplin cold turkey I lost my insurance

Resolved Question:

Can i stop taking deplin cold turkey? I lost my insurance to a job reductionand cannot afford the copay which is n$95.
I was told there are generics but cannot take the generic for synthroid so do not want to switch. I have been on it for about 3 years.

Yes you can stop the Deplin cold turkey. There is no need for tapering the dosage.

I do recommend that you inform your doctor that you have stopped taking it.

I realize there are generics out there for deplin ( enfolast and folbic) would I be able to take one of these since they are much cheaper? I cannot take a generic of synthroid so would this also be the case for this drug?

They are a bit different in that they contail folic acid, not L-methylfolate.
They are not actually generics for Deplin.

Some people feel that the L-methylfolate may be better absorbed, but this is controversial.

I think it would be fine to substitute.

thanks for the answer. I did let my doctor know I was stopping it because i can't afford it and she suggested i take a b-complex instead. Why wasn't I on that to begin with instead of the deplin?

I know it is frustrating. Your doctor likely wanted you on prescription strength to begin with.
