Hello, Welcome to Just Answer and thanks for your question. The angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) Benicar has no generic equivalent. Chemically, its name is XXXXX XXXXX patent does not expire until 2016. The only one of the ARBs to have a generic equivalent is Cozaar (losartan) and Teva Pharmaceuticals makes the generic of that. Micardis is telmisartan and is another ARB. Micardis works in the same way as Benicar but the dosages are different. Micardis comes in 20 mg. 40 mg and 80 mg while Benicar comes in 5 mg, 20 mg, and 40 mg doses, so you will have a different dose of Micardis than you did of Benicar.
