Hello,

Throbbing pulsating feeling and shortness of breath will warrant investigative work up by the following to ascertain the cause;

1) Barium swallow

2) Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy

This initial evaluation will either give the cause or give the guideline for the further investigations. A possibility of the pharyngeal diverticulum, retrosternal thyroid, should be considered by your physician. A consultation by an ENT specialist would be prudent.
