Yes, this could be due to some varicosity; however, there could also be some localized inflammation along the vein, such a thrombophlebitis. Generally, varicose veins are not painful. There can be a small amount of discomfort when they occur acutely; however, it would be best to have it evaluated for inflammation, especially if there is any redness too. Lisa
