For the last 2 days my husband has had 3 sudden onsets of vomitting

Resolved Question:

For the last 2 days my husband has had 3 sudden onsets of vomitting with no warning and no symptoms, he then feels fine after the event. He had it happen once over the summer. What do you think this could be and should he get this checked out?

Hello;

Thank you for writing in today. Since he has had 3 episodes of sudden vomiting within the last couple days, I would recommend evaluation. There are many different things that can cause sudden vomiting. Certain viral illnesses can cause some vomiting, and it is the right time of year. If other members of your family have had similar episodes of vomiting, this would be telling; however, this could also be related to another underlying issues, such as esophagitis or ulcer to name a few. Perhaps a physical exam will help eliminate other possible causes. Also, a review of his past medical history would be helpful to determine the cause of this vomiting. I hope this helps. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please let me know. Lisa

No one has been sick in the family, he does have a long history of ulcers but has never had this happen before,and no stomach pain. I was just wondering if something in the brain could be triggering this?

Yes, some neurological disorders can cause some sudden vomiting. Depending on his history, this is a potential concern. Statistically, this would be more likely to be a gastric issue. However, since sudden vomiting without associated symptoms is more concerning than vomiting with associated symptoms, it is always best to be evaluated by a provider. Lisa
